The new local information system and data observatory for the Cheshire, Halton and Warrington regions went live on Thursday 28th April 2011. The vision for the project is to provide an online data and information system complete with data analysis and mapping tools to help partner organisations share data and work together. The web based solution is powered by ORIGIN from Fluent Technology and provides partners and the general public with a wealth of information, data and statistics on their local neighbourhood.
The motivation for the project is to improve partnership working in order to reduce the amount of time spent on data collection and increase the availability of the data and information across the region. It is important that the DORIC partners have one central system to store and analyse information and also essential to build on existing collaboration, for example Community Safety partnerships between Cheshire Fire & Rescue, Cheshire Constabulary and Local Authorities.
The solution provides invaluable resources to researchers, statisticians and all those involved in policy making and is directly accessible to elected members, decision makers and officers in public organisations. In addition it is an important tool for the public who can easily access information and statistics about their local area via the internet.
The system has unique features and benefits including.
• Increased consistency of data definitions across all partners and stakeholders.
• Increased volume of ‘self service’ for information requests by the public and partners.
• More timely publishing of information to the public.
